Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast, the Apricus Residence by Reitsma and Associates is a stunning blend of modern design and natural beauty. This home, crafted for an active couple who often host visiting family, seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living spaces while maximizing breathtaking views to the east and west.

Situated on a challenging sloping site with a 12-meter elevation from street to rear, the residence features a split-level design that adapts to the terrain. This approach creates distinct living areas at varying levels, enhancing both functionality and stability while embracing the site's natural features.

Affectionately called 'the space between' by the Reitsma office, the location boasts stunning views of Noosa beaches to the east and open landscapes with distant mountains to the west. The design celebrates this duality, offering a harmonious blend of coastal and mountainous beauty, allowing residents to fully appreciate the vistas from every angle.

The home's design evokes a sense of openness and calmness with mature and sophisticated aesthetics. External walkways and staircases hover over the sloping terrain, connecting each unique living zone. These pathways encourage residents to engage with the changing seasons and weather, enhancing the coastal living experience. Natural materials and large windows ensure continuous visibility of the site's beauty, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The layout focuses on capturing the best views from the main dwelling's upper-level living quarters, the Master Suite, Private Gym, and the main outdoor living areas. The 18-meter lap pool acts as a central focal point, dividing the main residence from the guest retreat. This design maximizes natural light, enhances views, and ensures smooth transitions between different areas.

Materials and finishes embrace a modern beach house aesthetic while ensuring durability and sustainability. Timber batten screens add texture and warmth, while concrete elements provide a sleek, minimalist appeal. Painted timber battening over fiber cement sheeting nods to traditional beach houses in the area, and timber decking throughout enhances the connection with nature.

One of the home's standout features is the sliding timber battens on the upper-level living areas. These not only add a captivating visual element but also provide much-needed relief from the western afternoon sun. When closed, the screens create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow while maintaining filtered viewing opportunities. Their flexibility allows for an enhanced connection to the lower level and unobstructed views when desired.

The project was a collaborative effort involving builders, interior designers, and landscape architects, including Dayne Lawrie of Lawrie Construction, Martine from Zooi Interior, and Landscape Architect James Burrell. Their combined expertise ensured a beautiful and functional home.

The Apricus Residence exemplifies Reitsma and Associates' commitment to creating homes that respect and enhance their natural surroundings. This project showcases a perfect balance of modern design and natural beauty, resulting in a luxurious and serene living environment.
